How to create a cosy bedroom

Move to South Australia they said. The driest state in the driest continent. Well it has done nothing but rain for the last two days and now we also have strong winds to go with it. I just want to snuggle up in bed until the spring arrives. This got me thinking about cosy bedrooms and I thought I would share with you my ideas on how to make your bedroom cosy.

Firstly, invest in a good quality duvet cover and sheet set. You spend a lot of time in bed and your skin is regularly in contact with the sheets therefore quality sheets can make a huge difference in the quality of your sleep. I prefer cotton as I have sensitive skin which can be irritated by polyester.

Secondly, different lighting for different tasks is a must. A bedside reading lamp is a definite must in my house as I love reading to relax before sleeping. However, a brighter more direct light is needed for putting on make up or doing my hair.

Thirdly, I always like to put inspiring artwork in the bedroom. Reading an inspirational quote or looking at your favourite picture can improve your mood before sleeping and when you wake up. This plaque was given to us as a gift for our relocation. It is placed next to the bed to remind me of our dreams when I feel home sick.

Storage, Storage, Storage. As far as practicality goes, lots of storage is a must. No-one wants to sleep in a messy, cluttered bedroom and it is not conducive to a good nights sleep.

Optional extras – Cushions look great but my husband is not a fan as he says they mostly end up on the floor. However, I like to have a few for decoration and they are good for sitting up whilst reading.
